I cannot believe months have passed since I updated this blog.  I haven’t even twittered.

A lot of life lately has consisted of (1) being overwhelmed by work and (2) being overwhelmed by bills.  But in he middle of all this self-absorbed inner wailing, I have managed to have some Big Fun.

At the end of July on the year anniversary of taking the bar, J and I traveled back to the scene (Seattle) for a Nine Inch Nails concert.  It was awesome.  I bagged a nice room at the Westin downtown via Priceline.com and we flew to Seattle and back on my free airline miles.  The NIN concert had the usual fascinating pre-show people watching experience.  My favorite was a husky gentleman sporting a kilt.  There was hair in every color under the rainbow, tattoos people will regret in 10 years, as well as an unusually high number of Gene Simmons boots.  Gothic Lolita was the fashion of the day.  The concert was fabulous – so fabulous I am seriously considering hitting the show again in Missoula in a couple of months.

The canines are all well and I’ve changed the header image to Lucy at rest in her papasan chair.  Lucy had an unsightly health issue recently – her anal gland exploded.  It was as much fun as it sounds.  Surgery followed, including the extraction of two teeth.  Poor little doxie had mayhem going on with both ends.  She recovered speedily and is back to her usually passive-aggressive self.

I’ll try to poke my head above the water more often to post.  And now back to our regularly scheduled programming – work on my files which I’ve put off for the last two days so I could have a weekend.

Oh, and I’ve been on a Heart kick all of a sudden.  What’s that all about?

Since Radiohead released In Rainbows online, other artists have been tinkering with ways to release music online, most notably, my favorite Trent Reznor. Reznor recently released an instrumental album online, Ghosts for free and for pay in a variety of formats. The best way I can describe the music is ambient/experimental. It’s very nice, but not recommended for long drives or you’ll nod off on the steering wheel.

Over the last couple of weeks, Reznor released a couple of songs that seemed to be either stand-alone bits and pieces or part of a full-length album. Fans were told to check the NIN website for a surprise on May 5th.

I somehow remembered to check and Woot!, a new NIN album online for free!

While doing some Christmas decorating today, I threw in my newly purchased DVD of The Song Remains the Same. I’m going to date myself by confessing that I viewed this film at numerous midnight movies in my teenage years. The soundtrack album was also my first Led Zeppelin purchase.

I remember when the eagerly anticipated album In Through The Out Door was finally released. (Yes, I’m ancient.) I was busily rehearsing my pitch to my parents for permission to see them live at their first U.S. Tour in years. I was beyond crushed to hear the tragic news that John Bonham died. Not only was this a huge hit for a lunatic Led Zeppelin fan, but it forever squashed my chances of ever seeing Led Zeppelin in concert.

As a teenager I had a massive crush on Jimmy Page. While watching the film again, I realized I still do as in day-um Jimmy Page. I once got into a prolonged argument with some twit over whether or not Jimmy Page is the greatest guitar player of all time. I still want to throttle the guy. Imbecile.

Just to underscore my point:

I love people who design xml blog templates and then post them on the web for me to use for free. Although I have a link credit in my sidebar, I should call attention to the designer of this lovely new template located here.

I gotta go reserve my spot in bed before a wiener dog is given my space. Bulleted info dump:

  • I have a new desk for my future home office. woot!
  • If you like different hip-hop/rap with great lyrics and produced by the always-wonderful Trent Reznor check out Saul Williams’ latest release. You can download a low quality version for free or get it in the format of your choice for only five bucks! Trust me it’s awesome and it is here.
  • I have a new pre-lit fake Christmas tree. I love it. No needles on the floor and no lights to hang. I just unhinge the perfect tree and hang my pretties.
  • I have a hair appointment to get my “natural blonde” touched up and to plot either a brief grow-out or a new cut.
  • I have a manicure/pedicure schedule just a couple of days before my swearing-in. I’m going to be glam in a suit.

That’s it for now. This creature may be invading my personal bed space right now. Must go defend territory.

I downloaded American Doll Posse from iTunes the second it came out.

I love it. Tori is back!

It gets me through these last few finals.

My favorite band, NIN, visited NOLA last week to play Voodoo Fest – a free concert for the relief workers. The mayor’s office gave them access to parts of the city not yet opened to the public. You can see pictures of the devastation here. These photos were taken on October 28.

Although we are all seeing news stories about the bars opening in the quarter and NOLA getting back to normal, it’s far from the truth. I cannot even comprehend the work that needs done.
