It’s finals season which means there will be a great increase in the consumption of Red Bull and anti-depressants. I don’t have much advice to offer because those that are going to over-study are going to over-study, while those who are going to procrastinate are going to procrastinate. It is the way of things (please excuse the Obi-Wan moment).
But I do have the following to offer:
1L’s: Enjoy the hell out of yourselves this summer.
2L’s: Experience everything you can get out of your internships, keep your options and eyes open.
3L’s: Really dedicate yourself to relaxation and self-spoiling in between your last final and the start of bar review. Seriously, you’ve earned it. Wallow.
I downloaded American Doll Posse from iTunes the second it came out.
I love it. Tori is back!
It gets me through these last few finals.

In exactly one week I will be a law school graduate.
I have two more finals to go. One of the exams is a take-home and I’m hoping to get that one out of the way Monday. If all goes as planned, I will be DONE with law school exams by Wednesday.
The light at the end of the tunnel grows brighter.
Finals are over. My opinion may change when I get my grades, but as of right now my feeling is that wasn’t so bad. I only had three exams so I took advantage of the time off to do something highly unusual. I kicked back. I puttered. I acted like a normal person.
But enough normalcy; time to resume my internship during the break. I also need to find a permanent job. The pickins in that area are slim, but career services assures me that the market will pick up.
It’s creeping on towards 1 ay em and I am wide freakin’ awake. I hate being an insomniac. It would be convenient if I were a vampire. But I don’t even like my meat rare, so that’s not a possibility.
Wikipedia is a great way to kill time on the internet. Just about anything I can think of is on Wikipedia. But now I’m bored with Wikipedia and wondering if I should go look for graphics to re-design my banner graphic. But then again, maybe not. If I start on that tangent, I’ll never finish studying for finals.
I have a fairly light finals schedule this semester which I intend to enjoy because next semester (my last semester can you believe it) is jam packed with bar courses. I’ve already taken down one final and I think I did okay. Okay means I either did average or I will surface above the curve. At least I don’t feel like I tubed it. Feeling like I tubed it either means I did, in fact, tube it, or everyone else tubed it so bad the curve saved my bee-hind.
Law school is just weird.
As usual my need to feel in control during finals has morphed into a Martha Stewart phase involving Lazy Susans and one formerly ramshackle kitchen cupboard. I always embark on an organization project during finals because (1) like I said, I need to be in control; and (2) it lessens the guilt doing something useful when I really should be studying.
Plus I’m distracted by the need to find a job after graduation. I’m not mobile right now at all because I like the house we own and I like the area we live in. Unfortunately, jobs are not falling off of the trees. There is a career fair at the law school in a couple of months and I hope something pans out. If not, I may have to be more flexible geographically.
So how’s everyone doing this lovely finals season? Pounding the Mountain due, paper cuts from index cards, yellow highlighted fingertips, the usual?
Okay, so I’m a little weird. I should never make decisions during or immediately after finals.
I’ve decided to stay at my previous web host and not move here to blogger. There “may” be a move to a different domain name in the future, but that will be permanent when/if it happens. (Epilogue: Can’t I just stay at one host? Geezuz.)
So, if you are reading this on blogger, please return to the “real” Becoming a Jackal.
I’m back.
The break from blogging after finals was not a planned break. I went from my last day of finals directly to work the next day. I’ve been averaging about 10 hours a day at the office, which is good because it means I’m busy.
This blog needs some DIY spiffing in the worst way. I have to sit down with Photoshop and Dreamweaver to pretty the place up.
Finals went as well as finals ever do. I really detest the process. The monotony and the grind are impossible to describe to anyone other than a current/former law student.
And I’ve discovered that unexpected heat waves are not appreciated by those of us who wear dark suits every day.
I’m downsizing. Long ago I had a fantasy of building more of a website with the blog as an add-on. Life took over and the blog became THE website. Why pay for the damned space when I have blogger for free!
The archives have been saved to an xml file and once school is out, I’ll be able to start plugging in my archives.
For now it’s back to finals land!
