Our mini-Dachshund, Lucy, is so incredibly self-absorbed it leaves all us little people in awe.  Lucy had a sore back leg this weekend.  I felt up and down the subject leg with firm pressure (takes about 1 millisecond on a short weenie dog leg) and she did not object.  So I gave her an armchair diagnosis of muscle sprain.  The solution was to keep her quiet for a couple of days (not difficult) and to make sure she didn’t try to leap off of anything.

Lucille went into recuperation and pampering mode.  She’s feeling much better and the limp is all but gone.  However, I’m not sure she’s going to snap out of it.

Madam is Resting

Madam is resting and will not be disturbed.

Cricket, one of the two dachshunds that reside rent-free in our house, had a most excellent evening yesterday. First, she had a belly rub.

Then I stopped rubbing her belly. She noticed.

Yes, the brooding stare worked. I resumed belly rub (after delaying to take the photo).

Koba joined us on the couch, but reserved his personal space by laying way on the other end of the couch. Undeterred, Cricket breached his boundaries.

Look at that. She’s completely let herself go to the point where she’s not even bothering to suck in her tummy.

Another angle with Koba’s put-out-but-too-lazy-to-do-anything face.

And look at Cricket’s snout. Is that a tongue sticking out of her mouth? Well, let’s see…

I love people who design xml blog templates and then post them on the web for me to use for free. Although I have a link credit in my sidebar, I should call attention to the designer of this lovely new template located here.

I gotta go reserve my spot in bed before a wiener dog is given my space. Bulleted info dump:

  • I have a new desk for my future home office. woot!
  • If you like different hip-hop/rap with great lyrics and produced by the always-wonderful Trent Reznor check out Saul Williams’ latest release. You can download a low quality version for free or get it in the format of your choice for only five bucks! Trust me it’s awesome and it is here.
  • I have a new pre-lit fake Christmas tree. I love it. No needles on the floor and no lights to hang. I just unhinge the perfect tree and hang my pretties.
  • I have a hair appointment to get my “natural blonde” touched up and to plot either a brief grow-out or a new cut.
  • I have a manicure/pedicure schedule just a couple of days before my swearing-in. I’m going to be glam in a suit.

That’s it for now. This creature may be invading my personal bed space right now. Must go defend territory.

I previously posted photos of what my two dachshunds were up to during my last round of law school finals. Well, here, in all their glory are all four of the dogs pouting up a storm because I’m boring when I study for the bar exam.

There are two dachshunds in this household consisting of Cricket and Lucy. Cricket is a doll. She’s my mother’s favorite granddog and it would be hard to find a sweeter disposition.

Lucy, on the other hand, is impertinent and bossy, i.e. a perfectly normal miniature dachshund. If Cricket has something, Lucy absolutely must have something better. Lucy’s ire is not limited to Cricket, but extends to the other dogs. For example, Lucy regularly takes on the 95 pound Malamute – going so far as to snatch a chew from between his paws.

Lucy is almost exactly the same length as the Malamute’s head.

Today Cricket spent an enjoyable few moments tanning in the window.

Doesn’t that look wonderful? Check out the dangling leg.

Within moments of Cricket vacating the window, this happened.

Does she look like she is having any fun at all? No, she looks like she is enduring it. But dammit, if Cricket liked it Lucy must have it.

The beginning of my second year of law school has been riddled with obstacles.

Last Friday at 2:00 a.m. I lost my beloved senegal parrot, Mango. I found Mango sitting on the bottom of his cage with obvious signs of being very ill. After a series of phone calls, I managed to track down an emergency clinic with an avian vet. The vet determined Mango was likely in liver failure and his prognosis was not good. However, he had hopes that hospitalization in an oxygen tank, antiobiotics and milk thistle could jump start Mango’s liver. Unfortunately, Mango was just too far gone and when I called the vet at 5 the next morning, I learned that Mango crossed the Rainbow Bridge just three hours before.

I was devastated. So devastated in fact that my boss instructed me to stay home from work (I was off class that day). I stayed home and focused my energies at cleaning the bird room (we have a flock of parrots).

Somewhere in the basement is a birdie photo album. I’ll scan in a photo of Mango and feature him on the blog when I get a chance.

Then, over the weekend one of my dogs (Cricket the dashchund) quit eating. By Monday it was apparent that she needed checked out. I took her to the vet after class and went through the joy of holding down a stressed out weenie dog while the vet scraped fecal cultures. Fun. It turns out she didn’t have giardia as suspected and the antiobiotics and prescription food seem to have her back on track.

I have had two days without a tragedy or crisis and I’m hoping this is a new trend. Of course, the people on our southern shores are not enjoying my calm state of affairs. I’m am beyond shocked with the destruction from Hurricane Katrina.

Meanwhile, school is going well in spite of my disasters. I’m enjoying “sexy” ConLaw with all the interesting, contemporary cases on personal liberties such as abortion, marriage, and (gasp) sex. Currently I’m thumbing through the Lawrence decision that recently struck down the sodomy laws in Texas. Fascinating stuff.

My Evidence class is at the boring stage, but I’m sure the action will pick up. I must start flashcarding that one this weekend. My two family law classes, a survey of family law and community property, are both easy for me at this juncture considering my 20 years of experience in those fields. Administrative law is fitting in nicely with ConLaw and the professor that enjoyed in Contracts is just as engaging with this class.
