Welcome to Being a Jackal, formerly known as Becoming a Jackal.

I started this blog when I started law school. I’ve finished law school, passed the bar, and become an attorney all of which is documented in agonizing detail on this website. Now that law school is over (Thank God!!!) and the bar exam is behind me (Ditto!!!) this blog is slowly evolving into the innocuous blather that rumbles around in my brain.

Instead of finding a spot in a comfortably established firm getting a comfortable established salary, I decided to open my own family law practice.  I laugh maniacally whenever I actually allow myself to ponder what I’ve done.  Somehow in spite of being a crazy-person, I’ve managed to be somewhat successful at it.

Although I don’t use my full name, mailing address and social security number, I don’t take enormous pains to hide my identity. I’ve learned that really nothing is anonymous in this great internet realm. However, I’m more comfortable keeping us all on a first name basis and names of others may or may not be changed to protect their identity (depending on how much I like them).

The cast of regular characters are as follows:

J” is my human significant other. He appears on these pages from time to time. We IM each other while we are in the same house. Enough said.

We live with four dogs and six parrots. Take a deep breath…here goes…in order of appearance (canines first): Cricket is a lovely redheaded female Dachshund, Koba is a full-powered Schipperke and he is a mamma’s boy, Lucy is a bossy little black and tan mini Dachshund – she’s J’s bitch (literally), and last but definitely not least is Wakonda, a beautiful sweet Malamute who outweighs all the other dogs by 80 pounds. Oh, wait, here they all are:

The parrots (who are currently on strike because I don’t write about them enough) are: Merlyn, a cantankerous, yet lovable Congo African Grey, Boris & Natasha are two wild-caught Senegal parrots who are completely untamed and loathe us with a passion, and speaking of passion, they are the parents of Miracle and Sage our two other Senegals.

This concludes the present installment of “About this Site”.
